Benefited by the introduction of MEMS (Micro Electromechanical Systems) onto consumer electronic devices like smartphones and tablets, the worldwide MEMS market has entered the high growth phase. MEMS often encompass accelerometers, gyroscopes, and microphones. Most importantly, MEMS have the same equipment and standard processes utilized in the semiconductor industry and therefore have sparked interest of foundries around the world to set foot into MEMS.
